LFW, Day 2

We're finding the greatest thing about European fashion shows is everything is uploaded earlier, so looking up the collections is very convenient for us. Score!

Here are what we most enjoyed on Saturday:

Daks

Abstract artists inspired the Daks spring collection. Floating colors, transparency, weightlessness and fluidity were used to capture layered brush strokes, cross-hatched surface techniques and expressive mark making, according to designer Sheila Mckain-Waid. The result is a lot of white, pieces with looseness to it and subtle prints. It's a great interpretation of abstract art, which designers tend to use as a way to be loud and out there. Daks went a much quieter route and ended up with a very elegant collection.

John Rocha

Voluminous skirts and big hats were at the center of the John Rocha show. In those ways, it bares similarities to the Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 show, but it was definitely inspired by another source. Where Jacobs went a darker route, the Rocha collection is sort of frilly. The hats are made of tulle. The dresses have brocade or shimmery fabrics. And the chunky shoes have a peep toe.

Holly Fulton

In what is seeming to be one of the biggest trends for spring, the 60s made an appearance at Holly Fulton. Skateboarder Peggy McGee was the inspiration, and with flats and laid-back pieces it's easy to see the thought process. But the Holly Fulton collection presented was a more elevated version because of the dramatic prints, ornate jewelry and a girly touch. This is a collection that will appeal to both the girly girls and tomboys.
