The rain in NYC was highly uncomfortable, but the show must go on.
And luckily for us, it brought some goodies:
Marissa Webb

With monochromatic color schemes and wardrobe building pieces, the Marissa Webb show didn't seem too out of touch with J. Crew, where she was formerly the head designer. Since she isn't catering to the J. Crew woman anymore, she was able to showcase something else. The designs have more features to it, and the Webb woman seems to be one who likes to be put together as much as one who can and will try other styles.

Chunky sweaters, loose layers and a darker palette combine to make something that can only be described as relaxed military. With olive greens and camoflauge-like prints, it's hard not to conjure thoughts of military, but this collection is everything military is not: casual, flowery and sometimes glitzy. The unstructured pieces and bright oranges are the right way to make spring and summer, with its easy vibes, work the military angle as seamlessly as fall and winter.

The hair said it all at Mara Hoffman. Models walked the runway with beach hair and, just so you didn't miss the memo, palm fronds. The colors were bright, and the prints were as playful as playful as could be. Pinks and blues came through repeatedly, but it'd be hard to imagine that any color was discriminated against. And with the dressier items and more laid-back ones, Hoffman created a diverse enough wardrobe perfect for every day and every event on a cruise to warm climes.
Alexander Wang

Making an impact is just what Alexander Wang does, and this season, he raised the bar. Shoes were all set to knee-length level, some in a chunky black version and others in a lighter black-or-white style. And cutouts were everywhere. Sweaters, dresses and shorts had rows of cutouts, with what looked like teeny pieces of string holding two layers together. Some cutouts seemed to be held together with nothing at all. There were lots of flashes of skin, but it was done in a way that many a gal can find one that's not too outlandish for her. And if the incredible use of cutouts wasn't enough to appease you, then maybe the finale would. The models stood in place on the runway, and when the lights were dimmed, everything glowed.
